For the interior design industry, 2021 was a TRIP! Some of the trends we were used to went out the door and in place of that, people wanted function, color, fun, and lots of joy in their spaces. The previous year revealed a lot, and one thing interior designers adapted in their design process was transparency as clients became interested in knowing the story behind their products, sustainability, and ethical conscious items.
For clients who spent more time at home, personalization and self-expression became a needed theme for their interiors. Prior to the pandemic, the home was just a pitstop after work, but in 2021, many made their homes their sanctuary, a nest to cherish and use in a multi-purposeful way.
One thing we loved about 2021, however, was the growth – growth in the way designers approached their craft. We saw more nature-inspired tones, hybrid commercial spaces, functional and accommodating spaces, and the addition of rich intense hues to sprinkle coziness around where we spend the most time. Lighting became an essential part of wellbeing; to maintain rhythm and accommodate our mental and emotional health. It is oh so glorious to see the concept of interior design moving from just aesthetics and pictures to mindful well-designed spaces.
After collectively enduring almost 2 years of hurry-scurry, we are looking forward to 2022 and clinging to more sustainable spaces that allow us to be the best versions of ourselves.
Best wishes for 2022!
